Last Stand Under the Old Stand - The End of an Era Members of the Canterbury Rugby Supporters’ Club met in their Clubrooms under the Number 2 Stand at the AMI Stadium for the last time on Sunday, 11 November 2007. The club held a farewell BBQ for members and invited guests to say goodbye to their much cherished site prior to the demolition of the stand. Over 150 supporters attended, including past and present players and everyone seemed to enjoy the occasion!

AMI Insurance in partnership with Vbase began the demolition of the eastern stands (numbers 1, 2 & 3) the next day to make way for $60 million redevelopment of the stadium. A new stand similar to the western stand will bring the total capacity of the stadium to approximately 41,000. The club is currently considering various options for its new home. The most likely scenario is that it will relocate into a marquee within the stadium grounds until the new stand is built. President of the club, Mr Dick Tayler said that the committee would be most grateful to receive donations and sponsorship offers to ensure that the strong and proud tradition of the Canterbury Rugby Supporters’ Club is kept alive and well.
